STEELHEAD LANDING REPAIR PROJECT
Projected Start Date: TBA
Project Description
The Lake California Property Owner's Association purposes to remove the existing boat ramp (26 feet wide by 90 feet long) along the Sacramento River and replace it in kind with a new boat ramp of the same size. The existing ramp has a slope of 9.5 percent, the new ramp would have a slope of 8 percent. The approach to the new ramp would have a 5 percent slope for a distance of 30 feet. A floating boat dock (6 feet wide by 20 feet long) and a floating ramp (3 feet wide by 16 feet long) adjacent to the boat ramp would also be replaced with new structures of similar dimensions. Up to three poles, each 8 inches in diameter, would be installed into the riverbed to mount the floating dock. In addition, the existing parking lot servicing the boat ramp would undergo structural repairs/enhancements (e.g., installation of an asphalt-concrete berm around most of the parking area to minimize sediment discharge into the Sacramento River) as needed prior to being re-paved with asphalt-concrete. The existing parking lot would serve as a staging area for proposed work, which is expected to be completed in summer/fall 2009, or in summer /fall 2010.
In water work would occur between October 1 and October 15, unless an alternative time frame is authorized by NMFS and other resource agencies. The applicant proposes to dewater the area around the boat ramp using sandbags to isolate the work area and a pump to slowly remove water from the work area. Sediment-laden water would be discharged into uplands. The pump would have a screen to prevent fish or other animals from being harmed. Trapped fish would be collected with dip-nets by a biologist and released into the river. The proposed dewatering plan is subject to approval by the California Department of Fish and Game. The page marked Figure 3 is a site plan map of the effected area.
